The new-and-improved Elandra 53 has been released.
A FLEDGLING new luxury boat builder on the Gold Coast just keeps getting better.
Elandra, which has a factory base at an unassuming warehouse space in Arundel, has just launched a new and improved version of its original 53 model.
The 53 is on display via Leigh-Smith Yachts at Sanctuary Cove and incorporates the brand’s signature features — a spacious open-plan design, quality engineering and superyacht finish.
The latest unveiling by the firm, started 18 months ago by managing director Luke Durman and head designer Tom Barry-Cotter — the son of Gold Coast industry doyen Bill Barry-Cotter — caps a busy 12 months.
The company will build four to six boats this year, including three 53s and one 49, with its first US delivery of an Elandra 53 scheduled for mid-2016.
It entered the US market with the appointment last year of Michael Usina to the Florida-based role of President of Elandra Yachts Sales in the Americas. Meanwhile, Elandra has committed $3.5 million to research and development over the next two years.
Elandra Yachts managing director Luke Durman says the newest 53 model features a striking two-tone black and champagne gold hull, and has been refined in response to international feedback to boast a range of options for customers of the semi-custom built sports yacht.
“This latest model is a refinement of Elandra’s commitment to quality craftsmanship and superior performance, and embodies the brand’s focus on continuous and never-ending improvement.”
Luke credits the brand’s continued evolution to the outstanding skill and professionalism of his team.
“We have a close-knit team of really qualified tradesmen, who all work together to see each new boat through from the initial drafting stage to completion. Bringing together that level of combined knowledge, finesse and experience, and focus of concentrated production, is really the hallmark of a great quality vessel.”

Oft-described as the Bentley of the sea, the 53 configuration is a three-cabin, two-bathroom plan plus full-beam master suite and lavish ensuite with private water closet and shower.
Luke says the free-flowing design often draws comments that the Elandra models feel bigger than they are and adds the sense of space with the 53 is comparable to a 60 footer.
The superyacht-standard finishes include American walnut timber grain joinery, opalescent mother-of-pearl tiles and top-of-the-range European appliances.
Features include a hydraulic lift swim platform, a garage flanked by twin cavernous lazarette bays and sophisticated launch and retrieval system to accommodate a three-metre jet tender.
The CZone system controls the boat’s electrical systems, allowing owners to select operating modes, while also monitoring batteries and linking with the inverters and massive 25kVa genset, for effortless power management.
The lightweight but strong hull is hand-laid quadraxial E-Glass reinforced with Kevlar.
Power is provided by a pair of MAN R6-800 six-cylinder turbo diesel engines with common rail fuel injection. The engines deliver up to a rated 588kW (800hp) of power and 2,700Nm of torque.
